Philly Kids compete in the "Little Mo" Nationals

2 Philly youngsters were among the elite competing in the prestigious "Little Mo Nationals" at the Austin Tennis Academy this fall.

The event features the top 16 players from across the country in eight age divisions.  Mitchell Polnet of Churchville, Pennsylvania competed in the boy's 10 year old division.  Anna Mamlat from Philadelphia competed in the girl's 10 year old division.

The Little Mo Nationals is the only national tournament for young players 11 years and under.  It follows 2 international junior events:  the Smrikve Bowl in Croatia and the Kid's Cup tournament in France where Polnet was crowned champion.

Andy Roddick, a former Little Mo champion in 1992, donated Reebok hats and personally signed cards for all the Little Mo players.

The LiIttle Mo tournaments are sponsored by the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation in memory of its tennis champion namesake:  Maurreen Connolly, whose nickname was "Little Mo".  She was the first woman to win the Grand Slam in 1953 at 18 years of age.

Today, the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation works to further junior tennis development worldwide.
