The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus (PLBC) and State Representative James Roebuck recently bestowed citations on the Philadelphia Area Tennis District (PATD) for the group's 59 years of service.

"The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania congratulates the Philadelphia Area Tennis District of the United States Tennis Association's Middle States upon it's well-deserved recognition; offers best wishes for continued growth and success in the years to come," states the citation from the PLBC.

During the closing ceremony for the National Junior Tennis & Learning of Philadelphia, NJTL, summer program,  Duwaine Jenkins accepted the citations on behalf of the PATD. "It's a privilege to receive these citations on behalf of the PATD and the board," said Jenkins. Involved with the NJTL in various capacities beginning as a player in his youth, Jenkins is a true custodian and ambassador for tennis throughout the Philadelphia area. "It's great that Representative Roebuck and the Caucus recognize the work that we do in their communities," stated Jenkins. "We look forward to partnering with legislators that serve communities throughout the PATD to help grow the game of tennis, educate people through healthy activities and provide quality tennis programming for all that want to play."

Mrs. Pennsylvania America 2014, Amira Hamid Joseph, echoed Jenkins' sentiments. "It was great seeing the closing ceremonies and all of the kids from all over the city," said Hamid Joseph. A fitness fanatic that conducts exercise training classes with her husband, Ryan, was excited to know kids were active throughout the summer. "The PATD is a great organization that supports local programming and from what I've seen, they're doing a great job of positively impacting youth and communities through tennis," shared Hamid Joseph.
