Wissahickon Girls Dominate District 1 Championships

The Wissahickon Girls Tennis team has talent and it showed in their impressive win over Harriton to capture their District 1 AAA Crown. They beat Harriton in the final 3-2 after winning a 5-0 match against 3rd seeded Unionville. In the 3rd place Consolation, Chester County teams Unionville and Conestoga squared off with Unionville coming out on top 3-2. All 4 teams advanced automatically to the PIAA State tournament and all 4 have already won their 1st round matches with Quarterfinal and later rounds happening this weekend. 
In the AA Bracket, New Hope- Solesbury High School out of Bucks County captured the title beating Gwynedd Mercy Academy 3-2 and also advancing to the PIAA state tournament. 
Meanwhile, it was an all Wissachickon final in the AAA Doubles competition, with the Maureen and Katherine Devlin beating teammates Christie Cesarini and Danielle Mustin in the final 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation, Kaylee Yan and Lauren Ge of Conestoga beat Molly Bair and Amirah Salim of Abington 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 for 3rd place. 
All 4 teams will advance to the PIAA state doubles tournament in a few weeks. 
In the AA tournament, Taylor Hoffmann and Oana Grigoras of Lower Moreland took the title beating Cassidy Conners and Mary Anne Dobson of Villa Maria in the final 6-2, 6-4. 
In the singles, it was New Hope again in the AA bracket, with Genevieve Hobson taking the title over Alex Vo of Nazareth. She will advance to the AA competition at PIAA. In the AAA draw, Cristina Kaiser of Plymouth-Whitemarsh fought through a tough draw of 32 players to win a 3-set final over Hannah Drayton of Harriton 7-5, 0-6, 6-4. Mihaela Codreanu of Methacton took the consolation 3rd place final over Zaina Zaki of Unionville 6-1, 6-1.
